Victoria Vargas was born in Maracaibo, Venezuela, and notes Chicago as her hometown of 27 years. After years of dancing for many professional companies, Ms. Vargas found the need to explore her artistic expression through teaching, and directing younger talents.
Drawing upon techniques from ballet, Pilates, and the Alexander Technique, The 5th Position Method educates the muscles for more advanced accomplishments. In the words of Ms. Vargas, “teaching is (her) greatest personal reward”.
She is a former faculty member at The Joffrey Ballet of Chicago and has served as a guest teacher at many national and international ballet schools, as well as being a founding member of the Luna Negra Dance Theater, Her incessant involvement with many Chicago neighborhoods led Ms. Vargas to develop a community outreach ballet program in the UNO school system.
She has had the privilege of teaching both established companies and aspiring young dancers internationally, with her expansive travel repertoire including St. Petersburg, Holland, Spain, Panama, Mexico, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Morocco, Australia, Germany, Brazil and Italy.
In addition to her many teaching accolades, such as Ballet Mistress for Regional Dance America, she has created the 5th Position Method, a widely acknowledged floor barre concept amongst professional ballet dancers in the US. The 5th Position Method was originally developed to aid professional ballet dancers to overcome injury, and return stronger, and has now transcended into a regimen aimed at developing the anatomical power to avoid such injury.
